सुभाषितानि /Subhasitani

पृथिव्यां त्रीणि रत्नानि जलमन्नं  सुभाषितम्। 

मूढैः पाषाणखण्डेषु रत्नसंज्ञा विधीयते।।  

सरलार्थ -

पृथ्वी पर जल, अन्न और सुवचन ये तीन ही रत्न हैं परंतु मूर्खों के द्वारा प[पत्थर के टुकड़ों को रत्न का नाम दिया जाता है। 

English Translations-

The three precious stones on the earth are water, food and good sayings. But the pieces of stones are called jewels by the fools.

सत्येन धार्यते पृथ्वी सत्येन तपते रविः। 

सत्येन वाति वायुश्च सर्वं सत्य प्रतिष्ठितम्।।  

सरलार्थ -

सत्य से पृथ्वी धारण की जाती है।  सत्य से सूरज तपता है और सत्य ही वायु प्रवाहित होती है।  सब कुछ सत्य में समाहित है। 

English Translations-

The earth is held by the truth. The sun shines by the truth. The wind blows by the truth. Everything's is founded in Truth.

दाने तपसि शौर्ये च विज्ञाने विनये नये। 

विस्मये न ही कर्तव्यो बहुरत्ना वसुन्धरा।।  

सरलार्थ -

दान में, तपस्या में, बल में, विशेष ज्ञान में, विनम्रता में और नीति में निश्चय ही आश्चर्य नहीं करना चाहिए।  पृथ्वी बहुत रत्नों वाली है।  अर्थात पृथ्वी में बहुत से ऐसे रत्न भरे हुए हैं। 

English Translations-

One must not feel surprised in charity, devotion, strength, wisdom, humility and morality. The earth is full of such jewels.

सद्भिरेव सहासीत् सद्भिः कुर्वीत सङ्गतिम् । 

सद्भिर्विवादं मैत्रीं च नासद्भिः किञ्चिदाचरेत्।।  

सरलार्थ -

सज्जनों के साथ ही बैठना चाहिए।  सज्जनो के साथ संगति करनी चाहिए।  सज्जनों के साथ विवाद और मित्रता करनी चाहिए। असज्जनों के साथ कुछ भी व्यवहार नहीं करना चाहिए। 

English Translation-

One must sit with the good persons. One must keep the company of good people. One must engage in debate with good people and befriend them. One must not interact with bad people.

धनधान्येप्रयोगेषु विद्यायाः संग्रहेषु च। 

आहारे व्यवहारे च त्यक्तलज्जः सुखी भवेत्।।  

सरलार्थ -

धन धान्य के प्रयोग में और विद्या के संचय में , आहार और व्यवहार में संकोच को छोड़ने वाला अर्थात उदार प्रवृत्ति वाला व्यक्ति सुखी होता है। 

English Translations-

One who does not hesitate i.e. is generous in the use of wealth is gaining knowledge, in taking proper diet and in good behavior remains happy.

क्षमावशीकृतिर्लोके क्षमया किं न  साध्यते। 

शान्तिखड्गः करे यस्य किं करिष्यति दुर्जनः।।  

सरलार्थ -

क्षमा संसार में वशीकरण है। क्षमा से क्या कार्य पूर्ण नहीं होता है ? जिसके हाथ में क्षमारूपी तलवार है , उसका दुष्ट व्यक्ति क्या कर सकता है ?

English Translations-

Forgiveness is the greatest virtue in the world. What can not be achieved by forgiveness? What can a wicked person do to a person who has the sword of forgiveness in his hand.

पृथिव्याम -धरती पर -on the earth

मूढैः - मूर्खों के द्वारा -good sayings

पाषाणखण्डेषु - पत्थर के टुकड़ों में- by fools 

रत्नसंज्ञा - रत्न का नाम- in stone pieces

विधीयते - किया/समझा जाता है -name of precious stone

धार्यते - धारण किया जाता है -bears

तपते - जलता है  -burns

वाति - बहता है/ बहती है- blows

वायुश्च - पवन भी -air

प्रतिष्ठितम - स्थित है -situated

तपसि - तपस्या में- in penance

शैर्ये - बल में -in bravery

नये - नीति में -in policy

विस्मयः - आश्चर्य -wonder

बहुरत्ना - अनेक रत्नों वाली- possessing many Jewells 

वसुन्धरा - पृथिवी- earth

सद्भिरेव - सज्जनों के साथ ही -with gentleman along 

सहासीत - साथ बैठना चाहिए -should sit together

कुर्वीत - करना चाहिए -should do

सद्भिर्विवादम - सज्जनों के साथ झगड़ा- quarrel with gentlemen alone

क्षमावशीकृतिर्लोके - संसार में क्षमा -forgiveness is an enchantment in the world

नासद्भिः - असज्जन लोगों के साथ नहीं  -not with ungentlemanly 

धनधान्यप्रयोगेषु - धनधान्य के प्रयोग में -in the use of wealth

संग्रहेषु - संग्रहों में, संचय करने में -in accumulation

त्यक्तलज्जः - संकोच या भीरुता को छोड़ने वाला -one who has given up shyness

शान्तिखड्गः - शान्ति की तलवार -sword of peace
