प्रस्तुतोSयं पाठः "वेतालपंचविंशतिः" इति  प्रसिद्धकथासंग्रहात् सम्पादनं कृत्वा संगृहीतोSस्वि। अत्र मनोरञ्जक घटनाभिः विस्मयकारि घटनाभिश्च जीवनमुल्यानां निरुपणं वर्तते। अस्यां कथायां पूर्वकालतः एव स्वगृहोद्याने स्थितकल्पवृक्षेण जीमूतवाहनः लौकिकपदार्थान् न याचते। अपितु सः सांसारिकप्राणिनां दुःखानि अपाकरणाय वरं याचते। यतो हि लोकभोग्याः भौतिकपदार्थाः जलतरङ्गवद् अनित्याः सन्ति। अस्मिन् संसारे केवलं परोपकारः एव सर्वोत्कृष्टं चिरस्थायि तत्त्वं अस्ति। 

Hindi Translation:

यह प्रस्तुत पाठ "वेतालपञ्चविंशतिः" नामक प्रसिद्ध कथा संग्रह से संपादन करके संगृहीत किया गया है। मनोरंजक एवं आश्चर्यजनक घटनाओं के माध्यम से जीवन मूल्यों का वर्णन है। इस कहानी में जीमूतवाहन प्राचीन काल से ही अपने उद्यान के कल्प वृक्ष से सांसारिक वस्तुएँ नहीं माँगता है। बल्कि वह सांसारिक प्राणियों के कष्टों को दूर करने का वरदान मांगता है। क्योंकि संसार को भोगने वाली भौतिक वस्तुएँ जल की लहरों की भाँति अनित्य हैं। परोपकार ही इस संसार का सबसे उत्कृष्ट और स्थायी तत्व है।

 English Translation:

This presented text has been edited and collected from the famous story collection named "Vetalpanchvinshati". Life values are described through amusing and surprising incidents. In this story, Jimutvahana does not ask for worldly things from the Kalpa tree of his garden since ancient times. Rather he asks for a boon to remove the sufferings of worldly beings. Because the material things that enjoy the world are impermanent like the waves of water. Charity is the most excellent and permanent element of this world.

कल्पतरुः  

Hindi Translation

अस्ति हिमवान् नाम सर्वरत्नभूमिः नगेन्द्रः। तस्य सानोः उपरि विभाति कञ्चनपुरम् नाम नगरम्। तत्र जीमूतकेतुः इति श्रीमान विद्याधरपतिः वसति स्म। तस्य गृहोद्याने कुलक्रमागतः कल्पतरुः स्थितः। स राजा जुमूतकेतुः तं कल्पतरूं आराध्य तत्पश्चात् च बोधिसत्वांशसम्भवं जीमूतवाहनं नाम पुत्रं प्राप्नोत्।  सः जीमूतवाहनः महान दानवीरः सर्वभूताकम्पी च अभवत्।  तस्य गुणैः प्रसन्नः स्वसचिवैश्च प्रेरितः राजा कालेन सम्प्राप्तयौवनं तं यौवराज्ये अभिषिक्तवान्।  कदाचित हितैषिणः पितृमंत्रिणः यौवराज्ये स्थितं तं जीमूतवाहनं उक्तवन्तः - "युवराज! योSयं सर्वकामदः कल्पतरुः तवोद्याने तिष्ठति स तव सदा पूज्यः। अस्मिन् अनुकूले स्थिते सति शक्रोSपि अस्मान् बाधितुम् न शक्नुयात्" इति। 

Hindi Translation:

सब रत्नों की भूमि, पर्वतों में श्रेष्ठ हिमालय नामक पर्वत है।  उसके शिखर (चोटी) पर कञ्चनपुर नामक नगर सुशोभित है।  वहाँ विद्याधरों के राजा श्रीमान जीमूतकेतु रहते थे। उनके घर के बगीचे में वंश परम्परा से आ रहा कल्पवृक्ष था।  उस राजा ने कल्पवृक्ष की आराधना करके और उसकी कृपा से बोधिसत्व के अंश से उत्पन्न जीमूतवाहन नामक पुत्र को प्राप्त किया। वह महान, दानवीर और सभी प्राणियों पर कृपा करने वाला हुआ। उसके गुणों से प्रसन्न और अपने मन्त्रियों से प्रेरित राजा ने समय पर जवानी को प्राप्त (राजकुमार को  युवराज के पद पर अभिषिक्त किया। युवराज पद पर बैठे हुए उस जीमूतवाहन को एक बार किसी समय हितकारी पिता के मन्त्रियों ने कहा -"हे युवराज! जो यह कामनाओं को पूरा करने वाला कल्पवृक्ष आपके बगीचे में खड़ा है, वह आपके लिए सदैव पूज्य है। इसके अनुकूल होने पर इन्द्र भी हमे दुखी नहीं कर सकता है। " 

 English Translation:

    The land of all gems, the best among the mountains is the mountain named Himalaya. The city named Kanchanpur is adorned on its summit. Mr. Jimutketu, the king of the Vidyadharas, lived there. In the garden of his house, there was a Kalpavriksha coming from the family tradition. That king worshiped the Kalpavriksha and by its grace obtained a son named Jimutavahana born from the part of the Bodhisattva. He became great, charitable and merciful to all beings. Pleased with his qualities and inspired by his ministers, the king anointed the youth who attained youth on time (to the post of Yuvraj). Once upon a time, the ministers of his benevolent father said to that Jimutvahan sitting on the post of Yuvraj - "O Yuvraj! This wish-fulfilling Kalpavriksha is standing in your garden, it is always worshipable for you. Even Indra cannot hurt us if it is favorable.

एतत् आकर्ण्य जीमूतवाहनः अचिन्तयत् - " अहो ईदृशं अमरपादपं प्राप्यापि पूर्वैः पुरुषैः अस्माकं तादृशं फलं किमपि न प्राप्तम्। किन्तु केवलं कैश्चिदेव कृपणैः कश्चिदपि अर्थः अर्थितः। तदहम् अस्मात् कल्पतरोः अभीष्टं साधयामि" इति। एवं आलोच्य सः पितुः अन्तिकम् आगच्छत्। आगत्य च सुखमासीनं पितरम् एकान्ते न्यवेदयत् -"तात! त्वं तु जानासि एव यदस्मिन् संसारसागरे आशरीरम् इदं सर्वं धनं वीचिवत् चञ्चलम्। 

    एकः परोपकार एव अस्मिन् संसारे अनश्वरः यो युगान्तपर्यन्तं यशः प्रसूते। तद अस्माभिः ईदृशः कल्पतरुः किमर्थं रक्ष्यते? यैश्च पूर्वैरयं 'मम मम' इति आग्रहेण रक्षितः, ते इदानीं कुत्र गताः? तेषां कस्यायम्? अस्य वा के ते ? तस्मात् परोपकारैक फलसिद्धये त्वदाज्ञया इमं कल्पपादपं आराधयामि। 

Hindi Translation:

यह सुनकर जीमूतवाहन ने मन में सोचा-"अरे ऐसे अमर पौधे को प्राप्त करके भी हमारे पूर्वजों के द्वारा वैसा कोई भी फल नहीं प्राप्त किया गया, किन्तु केवल कुछ ही कंजूसों ने ही धन प्राप्त किया। इस कल्पवृक्ष से तो मैं अपनी प्रिय इच्छा को पूरी करूँगा। "ऐसा सोचकर वह पिता के पास आया।  वहाँ आकर सुखपूर्वक बैठे हुए पिता को एकान्त में निवेदन किया-"पिता जी! आप तो जानते ही हैं कि इस सागर में इस शरीर से लेकर सारा धन लहरों की तरह चंचल है। 

केवल एक परोपकार ही है जो इस संसार में अमर है और जो युगों के अंत तक प्रसिद्धि रखता है। तो हम ऐसा कल्प वृक्ष क्यों रखते हैं? और जो अतीत में 'मेरा-मेरा' की जिद से इसका बचाव करते थे, वे अब कहां गए? यह उनमें से किसका है? वे इस या उस के कौन हैं? अतः आपकी आज्ञा से मैं दूसरों पर उपकार के एकमात्र फल की प्राप्ति के लिए इस कल्पवृक्ष की पूजा करता हूँ।

 English Translation:

Hearing this, Jimutvahana thought in his mind - "O, even after getting such an immortal plant, no such fruit was obtained by our forefathers, but only a few misers obtained wealth. From this Kalpavriksha, I can fulfill my dear wish." I will complete it." Thinking like this he came to his father. After coming there, sitting happily requested the father in solitude - "Father! You know that all the money from this body to this body is fickle like waves in this ocean.

There is only one charity which is immortal in this world and which has fame till the end of ages. So why do we keep such a kalpa tree? And those who used to defend it with the insistence of 'mine-mine' in the past, where have they gone now? Which of them is it? Who are they of this or that? Therefore, by your permission, I worship this Kalpavriksha to get the only fruit of benevolence on others.

अथ  पित्रा 'तथा' इति अभ्यनुज्ञातः स जीमूतवाहनः  कल्पतरुम उपागम्य उवाच -"देव! त्वया अस्मत्पूर्वेषाम् अभीष्टाः कामाः पूरिताः, तन्ममैकम् कामं पूरय। यथा पृथिवीं अदरिद्राम् पश्यामि, तथा करोतु देव " इति।  एवं वादिनि जीमूतवाहने "त्वक्तस्त्वया एषाSहम् यातोSस्मि" इति वाक् तस्मात् तरोः उद्भूतः।

Hindi Translation:        

इसके बाद पिता के द्वारा वैसा ही करो ऐसी आज्ञा प्राप्त किया हुआ, वह जीमूतवाहन कल्पवृक्ष के पास जाकर बोला -"हे देव ! आपने हमारे पूर्वजों की सारी प्रिय कामनाएँ पूर्ण की हैं, तो मेरी एक कामना को पूरा कीजिए।  जैसे पृथ्वी पर गरीबों को न देखू वैसे आप भगवन कीजिए।" इस प्रकार जीमूतवाहन के कहने पर "तुम्हारे द्वारा छोड़ दिया गया यह मैं जा रहा हूँ " इस प्रकार की शब्द उस पेड़ से हुई।  

English Translation:

After this, having received such a command from the father to do the same, Jimutvahan went to the Kalpavriksha and said - "O God! You have fulfilled all the dear wishes of our ancestors, so fulfill my one wish. Just like the poor on earth If I don't see, then you do it God. Thus, on the saying of Jimutvahana, "I am leaving this abandoned by you" such words came from that tree.

क्षणेन् च स कल्पतरुः दिवं समुत्पत्य भुवि तथा वसूनि अवर्षत् यथा न कोSपि दुर्गत आसीत। ततस्तस्य जीमूतवाहनस्य सर्वजीवानुकम्पया सर्वत्र यशः प्रथितम्।

 Hindi Translation: 

और क्षण भर में वह कल्पवृक्ष आकाश में उठकर भूमि पर वैसे रत्नों को बरसाने लगा, जिससे कोई भी गरीब नहीं रह गया।  उसके बाद उस जीमूतवाहन की सभी जीवों पर कृपा करने के बाद सब जगह यश फैल गया।  

English Translation:

And in a moment that Kalpavriksha rose in the sky and started showering such gems on the ground, due to which no one remained poor. After that, after that Jimutvahan blessed all the living beings, the fame spread everywhere.
